We are partnering with the Center for a Vital Community at Sheridan College to host Study Circles focused on middle schoolers. Middle school has always been hard for biological and social reasons – now it’s harder than ever due to changes in technology. Everyone is invited to take part in Study Circles. Whether you’ve had a middle schooler, there’s one in your future, you work with them, they frequent your business, or you’re just interested in learning more about how you can help, join a Circle! Our kickoff will be here at the school on January 21. Study Circles will be held at a variety of times and days throughout Sheridan County for the convenience of participants.  8 to 12 people will be in each Circle  All ages are welcome to join a community Circle  Groups will meet for five two-hour sessions  Recognizing that most students don't have two hours available, we will be hosting a Circle here at school during the school day  Two facilitators will lead each group  Study Circles run from January 27 to March 7  A full schedule is available at sheridancvc.org, and you don’t need to sign up in advance to attend. After the five weeks of Circles, we bring the best ideas forward to put it all together at the Action Forum on March 12 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Hub on Smith’s Community Room. Study Circles is not talking to talk. Real change happens when our community comes together around a subject they care about. Past Study Circles include conversations about mental health, poverty, and creating a dementia-friendly community. They all created initiatives that are still going strong and making significant impacts here in Sheridan County. I encourage you to participate in Study Circles and be a part of creating solutions! Come to our kickoff on January 21 and learn more.

As a reminder for 7-12 students and parents: grades are final on Thursday at 4 pm. Students who still have an I after teachers have finalized grades on Thursday will NOT receive credit for the course and must create a plan for completion with teachers. Contact your teacher or Mrs. Betz if you have any questions.

Tapferkeit earns house points this week for leading the way in our MAP Growth testing. The house averaged 4.125 points above their projected growth across reading and math tests. Congratulations! The average for all students was very nearly 1 - our students have been working hard and it is nice to see these results. Keep up the hard work Panthers! #PantherClaw

I wanted to provide a quick update on the construction at SCSD#3. Front Parking Lot - the front parking lot has passed all tests and was cleaned and caulked late last week, it should be ready to be parked on this week. Back Parking Lot - the final portion of the back parking lot was poured on Friday; this concrete will likely have a similar curing time as the front lot did and it will be ready for traffic and parking when we return to school in the new year. Greenhouse - the greenhouse pad is complete, and the crew that is erecting the building arrived this past week. They are making great progress and the structure of the greenhouse will be complete soon. Utilities will then be hooked up, and the building will be operational in the new year. Water Treatment - Water Solutions completed most of the work necessary for water treatment for our boiler and drinking water this past Friday. The plumbing will be complete at the beginning of our winter break. Much has been done this last half of the semester, and the grounds are looking great. Thank you for your patience with all of the construction.
